Supporting Others

Over the years we have supported a number of charities through various prize donations, fund raising events and charity dishes.

Charity dish/pint

Our pubs feature either a charity dish on their menu or a charity beer on their bar which for every dish or pint sold then a percentage of the takings go to various local chosen charities. From April 2018 to April 2024 we have donated over £44,000.00 to local charities from our charity dishes and beers! It’s amazing how the 50p’s add up.

Charity walk

Since 2019 we have taken on a walking challenge each year fundraising for charities that are close to our heart taking us from the mountains of Wales, to the hills of Yorkshire and to the rolling trails of Cheshire.

The Stange charity challenge is never for the faint hearted but the brave hearted. Our charity walk is always a battle of endurance for the team as well as putting the team camaraderie to the test.

Stange took on the ‘Welsh Coastal Path Marathon’ in May 2024….in support of Parkinson’s UK

2024 was our 5th charity walk, following on from some great adventures in the Welsh mountains, Yorkshire fells and even a Cheshire ultra marathon last year. We decided to head to some more lumpier terrain to take on a marathon along the Welsh Coastal Path.

We started in New Quay south of Aberystwyth and as a team pounded 26 miles of rugged Welsh Coastal Path north along the coastal path until we reached the Glengower on Aberystwyth promenade, all in aid of raising as much awareness and money as we could for Parkinson’s UK.

What turned out to be a stunning day made it all the more beautiful along the stunning Welsh Coastal Path. There were a number of blisters, sore feet and legs but all was worth it when we made it back to the Glengower for a celebratory pint or two and knowing that we had raised some great funds for for Parkinson's UK.

We raised £6942 for Parkinson's UK.

Stange takes on The Sandstone Trail 2023

This was our 4th charity walk, following on from some previous great adventures in Wales and Yorkshire. This year we took the walk flatter but longer along 34 miles/55 kilometres of Cheshire’s Sandstone Ridge in support of Alder Hey Children’s Charity. It was definitely a test of endurance with the walkers on their feet for up to 15 hours along the trails. The sun was shining and spirits were high (for the most part anyway!) with great support from the aid station crew who travelled along the route providing the team with refreshments and treats, even a lunchtime chilled beer and G&T appeared which gave everyone a great lift.

The team really had to dig deep at the end. Completing an ultra marathon is no mean feat, and their legs and feet really were feeling every metre never mind mile by the end. But we are so proud to say that the team made it, all bar one who sadly injured their knee and had to retire.

We raised a cracking £5599 for Alder Hey Children’s Charity so the blisters and pain were all worth it.

Snowdon

Stange takes on The Welsh Three Peaks 2022

2 years late but we got there in the end! Postponed due to lockdowns and limitations we could not take on our challenge in 2020 but we managed to get it done in 2022. 17 members of the team from across the pubs as well as head office took on the challenge of the Welsh 3 Peaks and we completed it in 17 hours, smashing the goal time of under 24 hours.

The Welsh 3 peaks takes on 3 of the highest mountains in Wales covering 17 miles and ascending over 2300m in total – Pen Y Fan in Brecon (South), Cadair Idris at the bottom of the Snowdonia National Park (mid) and Snowdon (North) all in one day. It was a really tough day out with the team being pushed to their limits and the walk itself being our hardest challenge to date. As always, the team never cease to amaze with their incredible will and determination, including injured knees and strong fatigue they never gave up and pushed throughout the whole day to get back to the bottom of Snowdon before the dark kicked in, we didn’t have to get our headtorches out thankfully!

We received so much support both before, during and after the walk including kind donations from people on the day.

The team raised a fantastic total of £8199 for MIND.

Stange takes on The Yorkshire Three Peaks 2019

Following on from the success of 2018’s charity challenge, “Stange takes on Snowdonia” whereby 20 employees took on the tough challenge of walking 18 miles over 5 of the Welsh 3000s’ peaks ascending more than 1800m where we raised over £5000 for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity then we thought we would do it again in 2019!

However, on the 8th of May 2019 the challenge was even bigger, longer and harder! It was not for the faint hearted but the brave hearted taking on 3 of the highest peaks in Yorkshire hiking over 24 miles and over 5000ft of ascent.

Dementia UK was our chosen charity for 2019 in support of their wonderful work that they do helping those who suffer from Dementia as well as the support they offer their families. Dementia has touched many hearts of the team here at Stange through family and friends and we are all keen to help in any way we can.

This was a huge challenge for most of the team who all stepped well beyond their comfort zone and really pushed themselves physically and mentally. But we were so proud to say that everyone made it across the finish line!

The team raised a fantastic total of £9075.69 for Dementia UK.

Stange takes on Snowdonia 2018

In April 2018, as a group, we took on the challenge of walking 18 miles over 5 of the 14 peaks of the Welsh 3000s. The tough and mountainous walk took us from Carnedd Dafydd to Conwy Castle where we finished up at The Erskine Arms for a celebratory pint!

The challenge was created to support the “Let’s Go Green” campaign raising money for a new cancer centre in Liverpool as well as improving Clatterbridge hospital on the Wirral. The walk was a fantastic day out and a huge achievement for the team. Thank you to all those who supported both the event and the walkers.

The team raised a fantastic total of £5421.60 for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
